Dear Members and Guests
As restrictions start to ease, we are keen to welcome back our returning members, guests and visitors to our club competitions. However, the hard-won progress that has been made in keeping infections of the virus to low levels here on the Algarve must not be thrown away now.
We can all play our competitions safely by following a few simple rules – none of which are new or unfamiliar, but all of which are doubly important now as borders open and players arrive from other countries.
Entry and Cards
- Competition entry sheets are available inside the golf shop – competitions will be played as per the schedule on the club website
- Entry fees are to be paid as normal in the golf shop. 2’s will start as of the 17th of June. Minimum pay out of €10 rule is not in place until further notice.
- No cards are to be signed or exchanged by the player, only the marker. So, in singles or 2 balls you write the names on the card of your fellow competitors, not your own. At the end of the round the cards are to be checked verbally hole by hole and then signed by the marker. Please don’t forget to check handicaps, there will be no handicap sheet on the board for the time being so members must check your handicaps on-line.
- Until at least the 1st of July cards are to be put in the score card box which will be located on the window in the club hut. There will also be an A3 sheet attached to the hut for you to write in your score and 2´s (if you have paid in). The cards will be checked 48hrs later and then the final results will be posted on the website as normal
In Play
- Golf lends itself to Social Distancing very well, please remember to keep 2 metres apart wherever possible at all times. Please follow all instructions and requirements from GSA staff as appropriate
- Flagsticks should not be removed, to count as holed, part of the ball must be in the hole below the putting surface. Simply hitting the flagpole is not sufficient
- Bunker rakes have been removed, please use your club to smooth the bunker as much as possible. If your ball is in a footprint etc, you may lift and place the ball no nearer the hole.
- The water supply in the shed will still remain closed and committee members ONLY are allowed in the shed.
Prizegiving
- Where possible, prizegiving will take place on the terrace after the competition ends. Results will be posted on-line also as above. Please observe all Terrace rules on capacity and distancing. We will update you early in July.
Enjoy your golf

Brian.
