ELIMINATING THE USE OF SINGLE USE PLASTICS WHEN WE PLAY GOLF

If every FPGC Member played twice a week and took a supermarket bought bottle of water out with them over 20,000 single use plastic bottles would have to be recycled (if disposed of correctly), be incinerated, go into landfill, or, in a worst case scenario, could find their way simply littering our environment on land and into the world’s oceans. The pollution caused by plastic is obvious to us all.

Thankfully, many of our Membership use multi use drinking bottles and provided the inspiration for a scheme that, with sufficient support, we want to introduce to all FPGC Members.

A high grade FPGC branded double skinned aluminium 1L drinking bottle has been sourced. To buy such a bottle in the shops would cost at least €35. It is washable, robust and with sensible care will last many years. Because it is double skinned it acts like a vacuum flask and keeps cold drinks cool or hot drinks warm. The club will subsidise the cost of this bottle down to just €10 and provide 1 bottle to any Member who wishes to participate in this scheme.
Additionally, the club will provide on competition days a refill station of free natural or chilled drinking water from the club shed situated in the buggy park outside the Golf Shop between the 9th green and the 10th tee to all participating Members. A welcome refreshment after the front nine.

We need to find 100 FPGC Members to participate in this scheme to, not only make it financially viable, but more importantly to ensure we do eliminate the use of single use drinking bottles and reduce the impact of them on the environment.

Any Member that would like to participate can simply sign up on the sheet that will be posted on the notice board in the Spikes bar or alternatively can email pdfgolfclubpdf@outlook.com to confirm their participation. Payment will be collected when you receive your drinking bottle.

Many thanks for your support and let’s become an inspiration for other golf clubs to do the same!
