CAPTAIN´S BLOG

Hello everyone,

I hope you’re all coping well with the situation and feel ready to play golf again. Golf courses in Portugal will be open from the 5th of April, we are not sure whether we can play competition golf yet but competitions from April-June have now been posted, fingers crossed the 7th of April will be our first prize giving.

Unfortunately the St Patrick’s Day competition had to be cancelled, I send my best wishes to all our Irish members- better luck next year. I have cancelled all major competitions till after the 19th of June, mainly these are the Taça da Liberdade, Captain v Vice Captain, Past Captains day and the Club Championship.

Ralph’s inaugural trophy competition will now go ahead on June 19th and will be a Dubai Stableford, this being one of Ralph’s favourite competition formats and was sadly missed last year. The Captains Changeover trophies will also be awarded on that day to the best individual ladies and men´s scores of the day. We hope to be able to have a suitable celebration either after the competition or in the evening.

I took a walk round the course on Friday and it’s looking in great shape. Nelson and his staff have been busy this week cutting down some trees on the left of the 4th, trimming trees on the 2nd and carrying out buggy path repairs. They are hoping to treat the clover but are awaiting approval to purchase the materials.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed for the away trip in November and hope to have further information within the next month.

Two of our members are doing long distance walks for charity this year. Later this month, Kelvin Whittaker is planning to walk from Faro to his home in Luz and, in September, Paul Mott is aiming to walk 100 Km. Kelvin and Paul both have fund raising pages where you can support their charities.

I will keep you posted as much as I can on future developments but I think we all know the situation. Please make sure that when golf reopens on the 5th of April we all stick to the rules, be respectful at all times and be aware of others around you. We would hate to find ourselves in this situation again so let´s enjoy the golf and each other´s company in a safe manner.

See you all very soon

Your Captain, Mary
