ADVENT FESTIVAL UPDATE

A few updates for you after Portugal’s latest lockdown regulations.

As we may not travel into different council areas from the 4thof December at 23.00h till the 9th of December at 05.00h GSA have decided to cancel the competitions on the 7th and 8th of December. As we would still like to have a good turn out for our Christmas competition the Committee have decided to play the Christmas competition on the 4th of December in conjunction with the Past Captains. The Sagittarius Salver remains to be played on Weds 9th as scheduled.

So on the Friday 4th, all teams will keep all 4 individual players scores on 1 score card for the Xmas competition singles, and then a second card for the Past Captains Competition, which is an AM AM, highlighting the two qualifying scores on each hole. We suggest two different players in each fourball take responsibility for each score card. Please make sure all cards are clearly written and marked or they will not be accepted. There will be a 2 tee start and please have your meal straight after golf so we can keep our distance at the buffet table. We would appreciate everyone staying for prizegiving as there are plenty of prizes to go to around and as is traditional at Christmas every Member is guaranteed some form of  prize. Please also be aware that there are Christmas Hampers in both the shop and the bar where raffle tickets are available for a draw where the proceeds go to the staff members that offer us service and  support throughout the year. Please buy your tickets and buy lots of them!

We look forward to a fun, happy and enjoyable day!

DATE CHANGES AND UPDATE OF COMPETITIONS

AS PER THE NEW RULES SET IN PLACE BY THE GOVERNMENT WITH RESTRICTED CIRCULATION ON PUBLIC ROADS THE COMPETITIONS ON SUNDAY THE 22ND AND SUNDAY THE 29TH OF NOVEMBER WILL BE PLAYED ON FRIDAY THE 20TH AND FRIDAY THE 27TH TO AVOID THE WEEKEND.

A REMINDER THAT PAST CAPTAINS DAY WILL BE PLAYED NOW ON FRIDAY THE 4TH OF DECEMBER. ONCE THE CAPTAIN HAS RECEIVED COMMUNICATION FROM THE PAST CAPTAINS AND THEIR TEAMS WE WILL PUT THE SHEET ON THE BOARD FOR MEMBERS TO PUT THEIR NAMES DOWN AND JOIN IN THE FUN, ALWAYS A GREAT DAY AND WE ARE SURE IT WILL BE WELL SUPPORTED.

THE CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP WENT AHEAD THIS WEEKEND AND CONSIDERING THE CIRCUMSTANCES WAS WELL ATTENDED. BRIAN DID A GREAT JOB IN GETTING IT ORGANIZED AND WOULD LIKE TO THANK ALL THOSE WHO SUPPORTED THE EVENT, ITS A TOUGH 2 DAYS BUT A BIG WEEKEND IN OUR CALENDAR YEAR AND FOR ALL WHO PLAYED YOU SHOULD BE VERY PROUD.

COVID UPDATE RULES AND COMPETITIONS

Dear members

After the Committee meeting mid week, we would like to update the members with some of the matters arising and changes we feel necessary to secure our safety on and off the golf course. All these items are subject to any changes the government make within the State of Emergency due to the COVID pandemic.

In club competitions pins are now to be left in. Geoffrey Harnett and Rod Smith have kindly sponsored the touchless ball retrievers which should arrive shortly and be placed on the pins.

The ball may be pick and placed (not cleaned) anywhere in the bunker.

Preferred lies on the fairways ONLY and first cut around the green.

Past Captains day will now be played on Friday the 4th of December, all being well. Two tee start, no meal this year. Brian will be e mailing the past Captains this week.

By now most members will have seen the Christmas advent festival entry form, a few changes have been made.

Sunday the 6th – Our Christmas competition will be a two tee start at 09.00 am. Instead of our normal Christmas dinner we will have a Christmas buffet after golf, eat as you come in. There is no entry fee, the meal and prizes are subsidized. No 2’s. Lets pray for nice weather; I am sure we will have a super day.

Monday the 7th and Tuesday the 8th is as per the sheet, run by GSA

Wednesday the 9th is the Sagittarius Salver, it will also now be a two tee start at 09.00 am and the meal will be after golf. The €25 includes the meal, entry fee and 2’s.

As you are all aware of the financial difficulties GSA are facing at the moment the committee also discussed members fees for 2021. After a lengthy debate we agreed to e mail Dra Alexandra Caipirinha to arrange a meeting and discuss a way that GSA and members are happy with a sensible payment plan that suits all.

Stay safe
